Anonymous Mental Health Story

“I don’t usually write to people like this, but I found your website and thought maybe it’s worth trying to send you a message. Its months I feel like I’m drowning. I go to work every day, smile to show Iam ok, do everything I’m supposed to, but inside I feel completely empty.
My friends think I’m fine, my family doesn’t know how to help, and I don’t even have the words to explain what’s going on. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever feel genuinely happy again, or if this numbness is just how life is going to be.
I don’t want to burden anyone around me, but I also can’t keep this inside anymore. I just needed to tell someone.Thank you for listening, even if you don’t reply.”
The story is heartbreaking and my Reflection on this are:
What this person describes is something many silently go through: smiling on the outside while feeling empty inside.
This ‘numbness’ is often a sign of exhaustion, unprocessed emotions, or burnout.
Here are some steps that help:
1️⃣ Name the feeling – Writing these feelings or voice notes can help shape the emptiness. Naming it gives you back control.
2️⃣ Small daily anchors – Gaze at the Sunrise/sunset for 2 minutes without hurting your eyes, stand in front of the mirror and try to have eye-contact with yourself for 10 seconds reminding yourself, how far you have come.
3️⃣ Reach out early – You don’t need to wait until you break. Talking to a mentor, coach, or therapist lightens the load.
4️⃣ Self-compassion – Replace ‘what’s wrong with me?’ with ‘what do I need right now?’
Takeaway for You:
If you’ve ever felt like this anonymous writer, please remember you are not alone, and you are not broken.
Your mind and heart are asking for care, just like we all do as kids since birth.🤍
